Lung factor

Screening of new medicine

Suitable BMP-balancing medicine for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is searched in collaboration with the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) High Throughput Biomedicine Unit, as well as with docent Katri Koli’s research group. Preliminary results are being prepared for publication and the project will continue with targeted screening.

Gremlin and lung malformation

Other collaborative research aims to investigate the interactions of the gremlin protein and to determine the mechanism of the development of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis through the modelling of the disease. We have collaborated with Turku Center for Disease Modeling (TCDM) in creating a mouse model expressing gremlin in their lungs. We are investigating mechanisms of action of gremlin in lungs through this model.
